Dandelions were considered a common and beloved flower in early European society, renowned for their simple beauty and often the subject of poetry. When Europeans first settled in North America, the dandelion was a precious reminder of home. In Japanese culture, entire horticultural societies were formed so that the beauty of the dandelions could be appreciated, and to develop exciting new varities for gardeners. Dandelion leaves and buds have been a part of traditional Mediterranean (especially Sephardic) and Asian, most notably Chinese and Korean cuisine.
